Volker Eysing’s journey into the world of design

Volker Eysing’s path to design began in the Münsterland region and led him from an apprenticeship in carpentry to a degree in industrial design at the prestigious Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts in Kiel. His education left a lasting impression and laid the foundation for his holistic approach: technical expertise combined with a keen sense of aesthetic design.
"During my carpentry apprenticeship, I learned to humble myself and absorb knowledge from others. This experience profoundly shaped my approach to design," Eysing recalls. This philosophy continues to influence his work to this day.
The creation of se:mission
The innovative conference chair se:mission was developed in close collaboration with Sedus. Eysing describes the process as particularly creative, “I was not given a rigid briefing but rather the task of designing something simple, comprehensible, and comfortable.”
The result is a conference chair distinguished by its minimalist design and sustainable construction. The seat shells are made from recycled materials, and the modular structure allows for a variety of configurations – from a classic and conservative style to a more subtle and unobtrusive model. As a result, se:mission meets both the demands of modern work environments and high aesthetic standards.
Eysing’s emphasis on sustainability underscores the importance of using resources consciously without compromising on design and functionality.
Premium elegance and thoughtful ergonomics

Beyond its aesthetic versatility, se:missionoffers exceptional comfort and ergonomic excellence. With its fully upholstered inviting design and high-quality craftsmanship, it sets new standards for conference furniture. The key design features include:
DuoMotion movement concept: Ensuring supreme seating comfort and dynamic mobility.
Ergonomic details: An integrated lumbar support and an ergonomically contoured seat for maximum comfort.

se:mission seamlessly combines functionality with elegance, adapting effortlessly to various spatial and usage concepts – from inviting and informal to classic and conservative.
Rethinking workspaces
In the podcast, Eysing also shares his thoughts on the future of design. His vision: work environments that foster both creativity and well-being. “The goal is to create spaces that inspire collaboration. This will be key in attracting and retaining talented individuals.” se:mission embodies this philosophy – more than just a chair, it is a catalyst for a productive and enjoyable working atmosphere.
A glimpse into the future
Beyond furniture design, Eysing has further aspirations. He envisions designing products such as bicycles or sneakers in the future. These projects intrigue him, as they demand new perspectives and the use of innovative materials.
Additionally, he sees trade fairs, such as Orgatec, as essential platforms. They provide opportunities for inspiration and exchange, showcasing the vast possibilities of modern workplace design.
With se:mission, Volker Eysing has created an outstanding example of contemporary office design. The chair seamlessly blends sustainable materials, refined aesthetics, and adaptability. It stands as a testament to the idea that great design is not only beautiful but also functional and forward-thinking.
